Tri-M's HESC-104 PC/104 Vehicle Power Supply is a high efficiency, high performance DC to DC converter with integrated smart battery charger. A flash based microcontroller includes multistage charging algorithms for SLA, NiCd, NiMh. The charger is also a Level 3 compatible SMBus battery charger. Four signals provide for remote shutdown and monitoring of the HESC-104. In addition, the HESC-104 can be monitored and controlled through a memory mapped I/O port. Parameters, stored in non-volatile EEProm allow the OEM to customize and configure the HESC-104 for their application. Other parameters allow the OEM to control when the HESC-104 will turn off it's outputs, such as low battery capacity, and length of time since main power failed. A simple setup program run through the PC/104 bus allows the OEM to configure the charger to the battery manufacturers recommendations.
The HESC-104 directly plugs into the Tri-M Engineering BAT104 battery packs. A mosfet on the BAT104 allows the HESC-104 to isolate itself from the BAT104 to reduce power consumption. An integrated I2C digital temperature sensor on the BAT104 accurately monitors the battery temperature of the NiCd and NiMh, and the ambient on the SLA. Up to six additional digital temperature sensors, TS-I2C, can be connected to the HESC104. High and low temperature alarms, impending battery failure, and other critical events can notify the host PC/104 cpu of abnormal operating conditions a PC/104 bus interrupt.
The HESC-104-18F-PBF features an updated microprocessor onboard. This supports all the features of the original HESC-104-PBF board / HESC-UPS firmware but adds many new functions with increased performance.
