Quatech's DSP-200/300 asynchronous dual port RS-422/485 serial PCMCIA card is an ideal solution for adding additional serial ports to a wide variety of portable systems. Because it shares electronic fundamentals with native bus architectures such as PCI and ISA, it functions exactly like standard a standard COM port and can be addressed as such by most application software. In addition, their small size and the fact that the card itself can be left inside the computer at all times, making it them a practical choice for portable systems.
Compatibility issues?
If you have tried a USB to serial cable, you might have experienced some problems. There are a number of inexpensive cables on the market that perform USB to RS-232 serial conversion. While these may seem like an economical choice, they are often poor choices for all but the simplest of applications. For example. most adapter cables have very small data buffers and no IRQ support.
The Quatech PCMCIA serial card range are proper hardware based serial ports - if an application works with a standard serial port it will work with this product.
